A Song

...for a friend that is hurting tonight.
(the song reminds me of her)

And I heard you singing:
Wouldn't you say,
Wouldn't you say,
Wouldn't you say that Life is Beautiful...

Life is Beautiful
by Michelle Tumes

There was a young girl long ago
Who lived a peaceful life untold
She understood that love was everything

The jungle took her far away
Where her daddy worked and she would play
With friends who taught her how to be a lady

She had no rings on her fingers (just one ring :)
She had diamonds in her eyes
She had no money to be reckoned with
She had love within her life

And I heard her singing

CHORUS
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
That life is beautiful

She sang of things that pleased her soul
She questioned life and made it known
She stored her knowledge deep inside her mind

She had no mansions on a hillside
She had castles in the sky
She had no gold for inheritance
She had time on her side

And I heard her singing

CHORUS
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
That life is beautiful

And as the years go by
That peaceful girl was I
And I'm still singing

CHORUS
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
Wouldn't you say
That life is beautiful

Wouldn't you say
that life is beautiful

The Fool & The Wise Reprover

"As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly."
-Proverbs 26:11

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters."
-Proverbs 25:11-13

Savior Like a Shepherd

Savior like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care
In Thy pleasant pasture feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare

Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Thou has bought us Thine we are
Blessed Jesus, Blessed Jesus
Thou has bought us Thine we are

.......

"For Thou has broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:4-6

One Thousand Words

Wow what a day! It is now 11.55 pm. Got back from a wedding of church friends' a couple of hours ago, but i feel like i just got back cause of the tiredness. But now i still have to wait to pick up sister from another church friend's house. They're now driving down from San Francisco. Should be home in an hour or two. He lives 2o min away in West Covina. I hope one of the parentals is coming with me to keep me awake. So while i wait, i figured i have some time to spare.

I was going to write and share all the events that happened today, but my english is not that great... especially when i have to incorporate grammar in writing... especially when i'm tired. lol.

So 'pictures worth a thousand words' here we go... ^^

Parents been wanting me to take pictures of their new fruiting plants. lol.

Divine Appointment

by Barnabas Hope

As a worker for God in a country that is not friendly to evangelism, I pray that He will go before me and prepare the hearts of people to receive His word. And He does.

While walking down the street one day, I passed a small key shop. Two men stood inside talking. One held an old book. They must be reading the Koran, I thought as I passed. I finished my errand and turned toward home. I decided to have a key made so I could talk to those men.

"What are you doing in this country?" the key maker asked as he worked. I told him that I was associated with a travel agency in town. The man still held the old book in his hand. It had been marked with several colors of ink. I knew that people didn't normally write in the Koran. Then I realized that it was a Bible.

I paid him for the key and prepared to leave. As I walked by the man's Bible, I laid my hand on it and said, "This is a great book. You would do well to keep reading it."

"That's my Bible," he said, smiling slightly. "I bought it many years ago." Then he asked what faith I followed. I told him I was a Seventh-day Adventist believer.

"Oh," he said, "I know about them. I've read about Adventists on the Internet. Do Seventh-day Adventists have any books I can get?" I told him we did, and he asked me to bring him one.

Just the morning before this unexpected meeting, my family had read the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch for worship. We talked about the lesson this story held that we never know when we will meet someone whom the Holy Spirit has already prepared, and that we must be prepared to teach them when God places them in our path.

As I walked home from the key shop, I thought about how Phillip came across the eunuch sitting and reading the Bible and ministered to him. I pondered how I had never seen anyone in this country reading the Bible. Then today I met this man in the key shop who was reading a Bible-and sharing the Bible with another man.

I pray daily that the Lord will lead us to people who want to know what we know, for our environment is not friendly to evangelism.

Only a handful of Adventist believers live in the country I serve in. Pray for them, and continue giving to the mission offerings, which support missionaries around the world.

My Bible Journey

I feel that I'm spreading myself too thin in my Bible reading. Usually in the past, I tried to read one or two books at a time. That worked pretty well with the New Testament. But now, diving into the Old Testament, I have one notecard -as a mark- for Zechariah (on Chapter 9), another on Job (Chapter 8), a piece of paper on Isaiah (Chapter 22), and on some days I'm re-reading Romans (Chapter 6)... oh and i know whenever my brain can't seem to function in the morning, I always go to Proverbs (Chapter corresponding to dates. hehhe).

In James chapter 1:5 the Word of God says that "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." I do need help in this, because i don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything.

With that in mind, let me share you what I came across when reading Zechariah. A wonderful book :)

Our Abba Father has witnessed a lot of things. He has witnessed generation after generation of those who honor and forsake His name. We humans are often times selfish in our own ways.

"Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?" (Zechariah 7:5,6)

"Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts." (Zechariah 7:13)

Yet in the next chapter He goes on and say...

"Thus saith the LORD: I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem... There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.... If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts." (Zechariah 8:3-6)

Don't we serve an awesome God...

Zeal

"Your grace, God, that brings salvation has appeared to all people, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all wrongdoing, and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."
-Titus 2:11-14

Spirit filled souls are ablaze for God
They love with a love that glows
They believe with a faith that kindles
They serve with a devotion that consumes
They hate sin with a fierceness that burns
They rejoice with a joy that radiates
Love is perfected in the fire of God.

Strength for Today

"I never knew you"

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye workers of evil"

Matthew 7:21-23

..........

Here's an old song from last school year that i recorded with my guitar and computer. :)

It's nothing fancy but I truly believe that the words do reach the heavens.

This World is Not My Home
This world is not my home, I'm just passing through.
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore...

2nd Verse
They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know.
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go.
I know He'll take me through, though I am weak and poor.
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore...

Chorus
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

3rd Verse
Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally.
The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.
Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore...

(Chorus)

How Firm a Foundation

God woke me up this morning, before my alarm went off... i think He wanted me to know that i needed to commune with Him.

As i was getting getting up, i took a deep breath, and felt how easy it was to take a breath (the price of air is still free, not like gasoline). Oh how easy it is to just live and get on with life. But no, my life came with a price; a great sacrifice from Someone that died, and His Father that sent Him, who bore it all.

I sent a letter to an old friend in Indonesia this morning. A friend that I grew up in church with. I told him about my worries, i reminded him about the goodness of our Father in Heaven (please strengthen my prayer by remembering him in your prayer). His name is Elkana. A Bible name. I wasn't sure of the meaning (i knew 'El' was for 'God', but wasn't sure on 'kana'). So i googled... El-kana- "God has purchased". What a wonderful name. To bear that name, as a constant reminder... not just for self but for all mankind. Maybe i'll name my son that one day :)

Someone who knows me well, knows well that i'm not a righteous. If you thought i was, get to know me better. =P But God still calls us worthy, He calls us to be righteous...

"For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity." Proverbs 24:16

I tell you the truth that trouble times often cause me to retaliate to God. Lord please help me with that part in my life... "The flame shall not hurt thee, I only design, thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine" (How Firm a Foundation).

...........

"How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in his excellent word;
What more can he say than to you he hath said?
You, who unto Jesus, for refuge have fled.

“Fear not, I am with thee; O be not dismayed!
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

“When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design,
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes:
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never - no, never, no, never forsake!”

Friday

"Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy.
He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which Thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old."

Micah 7:18-20

Understanding

Mount St. Helens in Washington :)

God is so good, isn't He? So many blessings, so much mercy. But there are times when we can't help but question His ways. Some may say that people tend to call on God more when they're in distress and troubled; when things aren't going right. That calamities often make people depend more on God. That might have some truth to it... But the Bible says in Romans 2:4

"Or do you presume on the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?"

To 'make' us repent He would show even more kindness?

In life, there are many questions that are hard to answer. Many things we can't put our minds around. In the oldest book of the Bible, God answers Job when he could not see the reason behind all his suffering...

"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath streched the line upon it?

"Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?"

Job 38:4,5,28

.......

So let's keep our faith strong, eh? We can definitely ask our Savior and Friend later when He returns. :)

"He hath shown thee, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."
Micah 6:8

Tuesday

So tired... and it's only Tuesday. Oh how much i need power from above. To live on this earth but to breath in the heavenly atmosphere. Hmm i'm feeling refreshed already. :)

Mark 1:21-34 tells one busy day in Jesus' life (please read!) ^^
then verse 35...

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
And Simon and they that were with Him followed after Him.
And when they had found Him, they said unto Him, All men seek for Thee.
And He said unto them, Let's go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth."
Mark 1: 35-38

........

How much more this sinful self needs an alone time with God. A quite prayer time, early in the morning, my Creator and I.

Cooking 101

Trying to be vegetarian again this school year... but it's so hard! The only 'proteins' I know how to cook are eggs and hot dogs. haha. well, no I guess I'm not that bad. I also know how to do tofu. =P

Rice. I never realized how much I enjoyed rice until this year where I have to make them myself. =P I really can't recall, in this still-very-short life of mine, a situation where I had to cook my own rice. Not at home because my grandma would always make them. Not during camping because they never trusted me with cooking. Yes, shame... shame... Andrey. But now my rice-to-water ratio is improving by the day. ^^

Tofu. I called my grandma the other day to ask her how she does her tofu. I knew that she always marinates them. She told me it's one teaspoon of coriander powder with a little salt mixed in water, then leave it for a couple of hours. The tofu on the picture was a little bit different. That one was cooked in medium heat then left to marinate in the fridge overnight with peanut sauce. :)

Veggie. For now, I'm very thankful for all the varieties of frozen veggies out there. They're great! Save me so much time from chopping and cutting. The CLS program only spares us one hour (from 12.30 to 1.30) for lunch break before we start afternoon labs, all the way to 6 o'clock, Monday to Wed (no labs Thursday & Friday). Funny that now during class, usually around 11'ish, I'd start thinking on what frozen veggie I would 'cook' that day. Today during Hematology it was between the 'Oriental Blend' and the 'Sweet Corn'. Decisions, decisions... :)

Tofu's are great

Just one teaspoon :)

The Oriental Blend. =P

The Fridge
(cooked corn that day)

My first 'official' self-cooked Dish:
Rice, scrambled egg,
broccoli with mushroom...
(ok well not really... the dried potato & soy
stuff i brought from home) =P

The First Man & the Son of Man

Have you ever wondered how it'd be like, later in Heaven, when for the first time, Adam the first created man is welcomed back to Eden? Could you possibly describe the joy that's translated on his face and expression, beeing able to see the Creator, his Savior's face once more?

(sharing with you from Ellen White's The Great Controversy)

"As the ransomed ones are welcomed to the City of God, there rings out upon the air an exultant cry of adoration. The two Adams are about to meet. The Son of God is standing with outstretched arms to receive the father of our race -the being whom He created, who sinned against his Maker, and for whose sin the marks of the crucifixion are borne upon the Savior's form. As Adam discerns the prints of the cruel nails, he does not fall upon the bosom of his Lord, but in humiliation casts himself at His feet, crying: "Worthy, worthy is the Lamb that was slain!" Tenderly the Savior lifts him up and bids him look once more upon the Eden home from which he has so long been exiled.

After his expulsion from Eden, Adam's life on earth was filled with sorrow. Every dying leaf, every victim of sacrifice, every blight upon the fair face of nature, every stain upon man's purity, was a fresh reminder of his sin. Terrible was the agony of remorse as he beheld iniquity abounding, and, in answer to his warnings, met the reproaches cast upon himself as the cause of sin. With patient humility he bore, for nearly a thousand years, the penalty of transgression. Faithfully did he repent of his sin and trust in the merits of the promised Savior, and he died in the hope of a resurrection. The Son of God redeemed man's failure and fall; and now, through the work of the atonement, Adam is reinstated in his first dominion.

Transported with joy, he beholds the trees that were once his delight -the very trees whose fruit he himself had gathered in the days of his innocence and joy. He sees the vines that his own hands have trained, the very flowers that he once loved to care for. His mind grasps the reality of the scene; he comprehends that this is indeed Eden restored, more lovely now than when he was banished from it." (The Great Controversy 647, 648)

"Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
For Thou, O God, hast heard my vows: Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear Thy name.
Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
So will I sing praise unto Thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows."

Psalm 61

"Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Of His own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."

James 1:16-20

Thank you Lord for a loving family, for parents that fear Your Name, for another year...

Fall Comes and Goes [2009]

"Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets.
And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. =T
(Immunology test tomorrow, then Hematology Friday... this weeks test results have not been so hawt)
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil."
Ecclesiastes 12:1,2 verse 5, verse 12-14

Perfect Humility

"These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."
Proverbs 6:16-19

A friend once told me, that when he first saw me, he thought I was a 'proud-looking' guy. =? I've prayed to God to help me with that ever since. I hope I am no longer that same guy.

Thank you Lord for being with me through another week...

When my faith shall be sight

"And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful."
Revelations 21:2-5

The Heart...

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?

I, Jehovah, search the heart, test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

Enoch

When i woke up yesterday morning, i asked God, "Lord, since you seem to know everything, and you can tell the future, is today going to be another day when i stray away from you?"

Hard as it was, i got myself up and read my Bible, to get some 'Bread of Life' from heaven :) and prepare myself for the day [i was trying to finish Habakkuk]. So the day went by... temptations they 'come-and-go'. But that night before i fell asleep, i thanked Him for walking with me through the day; would not have made it through with my own power.

This morning i asked Him again, "How about today, Lord? Will i break your heart today and then come running back to you?"

.........

"And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not seen again; for God took him."
Genesis 5: 23,24

Dating Around

For the past 2 years at Andrews, i've been a part of the filipino/indonesian youth. We meet for vespers/fellowship every friday night, (sometimes) go to the 2nd service together, and do some activities for sabbath afternoons. I've always wanted to be part of a group and be active, so i wont be idle on friday nights and sabbath afternoons (because that'd be a dangerous thing my friend =P).

Two friday nights ago during vespers, as we continued our Bible study on 'Discipleship', i learned something. it's not something new, but somehow it just hit me in a different way. So i want to share this with you. =)

"If someone calls you from across the street they expect that you will commit your attention to them. If someone calls you on the phone they expect that you will commit your time to them. If a very special someone asks you to marry them, they are hoping that you will agree to commit your life to them."

The author of the lesson continued on, listing the progressive stages of commitment:
1. Friendship (group fun & games)
2. Casual dating (group dates)
3. Special dating
4. Steady dating/courting
5. Engaged to be engaged
6. Engagement
7. Marriage

(that was his version of course. hehe)

The more we trust and/or love someone, the greater commitment we are willing to make to them.

..........

I think that's my problem. I have a big time issue on commitment. When i look at my relationship with God, i see myself going back and forth. In finding pleasure in sin and kneeling on my knees for forgiveness when i feel miserable..... As if i'm 'dating around' and my allegiance is never sure.

God wants us to walk with Him. To commit to Him fully like we would to our spouse.

"My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." I John 2:1

this one in Hebrews is one my favorite verse...

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:15,16

As we continue our walk with Him, let's not put in vain the sacrifice that our Savior has made on that cross. That when we find ourselves in 'spiritual darkness' we don't be discouraged, and linger any longer in the slums of sin, but know [with full confidence] that we can come boldly unto the throne of grace, and continue our 'upward course' with Him once more.

(Oh man i think this song goes along so well with the verse... =)

Tips from God

Here are some 'tips' from God, that i could think of, helping me to be more patient in finding and choosing my future wife. hehhe...
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which He hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:9
And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. And the man wondering at her held his peace, so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not... And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee.Genesis 24: 20-23
(The story of Rebekah) :)
